To better understand the progress being made in eHealth among Ontario’s hospitals, the OHA has been collecting an inventory of hospitals’ eHealth technologies and applications. This has been done through an online data entry interface, where Ontario hospitals self-report on the various eHealth solutions they use to support their clinical work. By the end of 2009, 85 percent of Ontario hospitals had participated.
This year, the OHA enhanced the online data entry interface, including new questions, to help populate information in the eHealth Technologies and Applications Inventory. The OHA has been working with Ontario hospitals to complete their information for the 2010 inventory. The initial deadline was May 1, 2010 and was extended to May 14, 2010.
Your participation in this inventory is important. Comprehensive and accurate information about the status of various eHealth technologies and applications helps both hospitals and the OHA to understand where progress is being made and where challenges and gaps still exist.
Information is populated by Ontario hospitals throughout the year and is made available via the OHA’s online eHealth Applications Viewer (for further information, click here), a dynamic and searchable online registry accessible by all hospitals, providers, and health system partners. The OHA gives the information it collects back to hospitals to enable numerous benchmarking opportunities and comparisons (e.g. HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption ModelSM scores, which are available every quarter).
In the coming weeks, participating hospitals will receive a customized one page status report of their hospital’s eHealth adoption (see image).
Hospitals can access the OHA’s eHealth Technologies and Applications Inventory online data entry interface through their hospital-specific link or through the OHA’s eHealth Applications Viewer.
The OHA strongly encourages all hospitals to fully participate in this program to support better understanding, transparency and collaboration.
