In 2010, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) established a Physician Provincial Leadership Council (PPLC) as part of its physician engagement strategy.
The PPLC is comprised of 15 physician and hospital leaders representing academic and community hospitals of varying sizes and geographic locations (rural and urban).
The mandate of the Council is to provide strategic advice to the OHA on various physician-related matters that impact hospital-based practice in Ontario. The PPLC is also supporting the OHA in its mission to enhance physician engagement and hospital-physician relationships by developing trust and a collaborative culture among health professionals to achieve a high-performing health system.
Over the past year, the PPLC has been involved in a number of OHA initiatives, including but not limited to:
- Supporting the development of the OHA’s physician-related webcasts
- Planning and facilitating the Physician Services Agreement Forum held in April 2011
- Organizing the inaugural Physician Leadership Summit held in June 2011
- Developing recommendations for the OHA’s report entitled Hospitals Voice Their Opinions: Core Recommendations for the 2012 Physician Services Agreement
- Reviewing the OHA Professional Staff Credentialing Toolkit
In the coming months, the PPLC will continue to provide advice and guidance to the OHA as it proactively advocates for hospitals in the upcoming Physician Services Agreement negotiations.
